Det vetenskapliga underlaget för Basal Kroppskännedom som behandlingsmetod blir allt bättre.
I Nationella Riktlinjer för vård vid depression och ångestsyndrom (Socialstyrelsen 2017) finns nu rekommendation om Basal Kroppskännedom vid lindrig till medelsvår depression för vuxna i tillägg till annan behandling med siffran 7. (Detta kan jämföras med fysisk aktivitet med siffran 6).
Vad betyder siffrorna? Riktlinjerna innehåller tre typer av rekommendationer: prioritering 1–10, där de rangordnade åtgärderna har dokumenterad effekt eller stöd i beprövad erfarenhet. De redovisas i en skala från 1 till 10 efter angelägenhetsgrad. Siffran 1 anger åtgärder med högst prioritet. Dessutom finns åtgärder som bedöms som icke-göra och FoU (att åtgärden behöver forskas på och utvärderas innan den kan införas i riktlinjerna).

I de Nationella riktlinjerna för vård och stöd vid schizofreni och schizofreniliknande tillstånd (som finns i en remissversion) så får Basal Kroppskännedom siffran 5 med följande text ”Åtgärden leder till minskade psykossymtom, ökad rörelseförmåga och ökad livskvalitet. Således kan man säga att inom området mental hälsa finns det vetenskapligt stöd för att använda BK om patienten har ovanstående problem. De Nationella riktlinjerna bygger på vetenskaplig forskning (randomiserade och kontrollerade studier) samt på synpunkter från de professionella grupperna och från brukare.
De Nationella riktlinjerna är det underlag som beslutsfattare i regioner och landsting får från Socialstyrelsen.
Det finns även annan forskning om BK än randomiserade, kontrollerade studier men de anses inte vara lika starka när det kommer till det som kallas ”evidens”.
